Every time someone gets the motivation to start working out they think they should be working out everyday. As much as I love their commitment more is not always better at the beginning.

Now let me explain.

First, you could be setting yourself up for disappointment. If you have been struggling to workout one day a week why do you think all of a sudden you will be able to workout 5-6 days a week? Setting your goals too high at the beginning increases your likely hood to get frustrated and quit. Aim for 1-2 days a week of working out or aim to add more walking into your daily life. Once you have been able to do that for a few weeks then start adding more days a week. You want to make small sustainable changes that will last a lifetime!

Second, you cannot out train a bad diet. Your diet accounts for 80% of any weight loss or body recomposition transformation. If weight loss is your main goal I would advise you to look at your diet before adding more exercise into your life. If your diet is on point and you have hit a plateau then you can consider adding more exercise.

Last and most importantly is if you max yourself out at the beginning you have no where to go when you hit a plateau. For example, if you start working out 5 days a week for an hour you will most likely loose weight (if you have a good diet regimen). However, eventually after so many weeks or months your weight loss will stall. To break that plateau you will either have to get more strict with your diet or workout more. So instead of working out 5 days a week for an hour now you will be working out 6-7 days a week for an hour. One I would never recommend that to anyone, two your body needs a day of rest, and three that is not realistic for most people.

The best advice I have when starting out is to do the least amount of exercise you can while still loosing weight. Then when you hit a plateau you can slowly start adding more days or more minutes per day of exercise. As much as everyone wants to hit the ground running starting off slow and steady is more optimal for sustainable weight loss. I hope this was helpful!
